C#, C++ Among Microsoft's Favorite Languages

To say that Microsoft's important would be to make a huge understatement; the tech company has a market cap of about $264 billion, and its influence can be felt in every industrialized part of the world. Fans of the C family of programming languages should be pleased, then, that a couple of members are favored by Microsoft.

Darryl K. Taft took a look at what's being used, what's being promoted, and what's being discussed, and put together a list of the top 10 Microsoft programming languages. C++ and C# both easily made the cut.

With regards to the former, Taft wrote, "C++ is the workhorse language at Microsoft. The company uses C++ to build many of its core applications. . . . C++ is widely used in the software industry, and remains one of the most popular languages ever created."

Then, in reference to C#, Taft continued, "Microsoft announced Microsoft C# in 2001 as a modern, object-oriented programming language built from the ground up to exploit the power of X M L-based Web services on the .NET platform. With its object-oriented design, C# is useful for developers building a wide range of high-performance Web applications and components - from X M L-based Web services to middle-tier business objects and system-level applications."

The attention from Microsoft should ensure that C# and C++ are around for quite a while and receive a lot of attention in the meantime.
