Worldwide Programming Competition To Begin Soon

Keep an eye out - or get your application in - if you're interested in a competition that should unearth and crown some of the world's best programmers. The IEEEXtreme Programming Competition 3.0 will take place in about three weeks' time.

Here are a few key points. Things will kick off at 8 PM EDT on October 24th on a number of different college campuses, and then continue for a solid 24 hours. The registration deadline is October 12th. And this should be right up your alley in terms of languages, since supported ones include Microsoft Visual C++/C#, C/C++, Java, and C#.

Otherwise, a press release explains, "The third annual worldwide college programming competition involves teams of IEEE student members working collaboratively to solve a series of challenging programming problems."

Finally, the main prize (aside from the pretty-much-unofficial title of "world's best programmers") is a free trip to the winning team's pick of IEEE conferences and events, which should prove both fun and a valuable learning experience.

More details are available on the IEEEXtreme Programming Competition 3.0 site, of course. People who are looking to hire young programmers, hoping to scope out the next generation of competition, or in fact are a young programmer wanting to be competitive would do well to get involved.
