C# Guidebook Gets Good Reviews

By Doug Caverly

If you're looking for a book about the C# programming language, we may (or may not) have one to recommend. Reviews of Head First C# have indicated that there's a lot to love and a little to dislike.

To get a discussion of its weak points out of the way, the tome (it's 778 pages long), can reportedly get a little repetitive. Since confused or forgetful readers are able to flip back a few pages, there's no real need to go over some issues again and again.

Also, Michael J. Ross and Greg Hanson discovered some problems in terms of accuracy. Ross writes, "[T]he target audience especially may be frustrated by all of the errata and other sources of confusion that they will encounter. . . . In fact, that there are so many technical errors in this book is quite remarkable given that the technical review team comprised no fewer than 14 individuals! How could so many eyeballs miss so much?"

Head First C# has still received an average of 4.5 stars from 41 reviewers on Amazon.com, however, so it seems these problems are surmountable. Anyone wanting to learn C# (or perhaps even brush up on it) will probably find a few things to make the purchase worthwhile.

A slight side note: Andrew Stellman and Jennifer Greene, the book's authors, are both dog owners, so that's another point in the volume's favor.
